What FPY Measures

First-pass yield is the proportion of units that pass every test and inspection the first time they go through the line. A stove that needs a loose connection re-tightened or a burner re-tested is a failure in FPY terms, even if it eventually ships. Unlike final-pass rates, which can hide rework, FPY exposes the true cost of defects.
