The gas leak test is the single most important quality gate on any gas stove assembly line. But a tester is only as good as the parameters you set — wrong pressure or too short a hold time can let a leaking stove pass. Here is how to define leak test parameters that actually protect your customers.
Test pressure should be set slightly above the stove's normal operating pressure, but within the safe limit of every component. This stresses the gas system enough to reveal leaks without damaging seals or valves. Confirm the correct pressure with your gas system supplier and lock it into the test procedure.
A leak test is not instantaneous. After pressurizing, the system needs a defined hold time — the period the pressure is maintained while you watch for a drop. A hold time that is too short misses slow leaks. A reasonable hold catches both sudden and gradual leaks without slowing the line.
Your criteria must be objective. A stove passes only if the pressure drop stays below a set threshold over the full hold time, with no audible or visible leak at any joint. Document the threshold so every operator applies the same standard.
100% testing is the rule — no sampling. Every assembled stove is pressurized and held before it leaves the line. A skipped test is a liability waiting to happen.
Record each test result for traceability, and calibrate your tester on a regular schedule. A miscalibrated tester can pass stoves that leak or reject stoves that are fine.
