What Primary Air Does

A gas burner does not burn pure gas — it burns a gas-air mixture. Primary air is the air pulled in through the venturi throat before the gas reaches the flame ports. Getting the ratio right produces a clean blue flame with complete combustion and no soot. Too little primary air means yellow, smoky flames; too much can cause lifting or flashback.

The Air-Shutter Adjustment

Many burners include an adjustable air shutter at the venturi opening that controls primary air intake. In OEM, this shutter can be fixed, adjustable, or tuned to a specific gas type (LPG needs different air settings than natural gas). Customizing this in your burner spec means your product delivers clean combustion out of the box — in your target market, on your target gas.
