The gas leak tester is the most important piece of equipment on a gas stove assembly line, yet many new operators select one without understanding the options. There is real difference between a basic bubble test and a calibrated pressure-decay instrument, and choosing the right method and accuracy grade directly affects your safety record and your throughput. Here is how to select correctly.

Know the Testing Methods

• Pressure decay — the system is pressurized and sealed, then a sensor measures how much pressure drops over time. Any drop indicates a leak. Fast, quantitative, and the industry standard for appliance production.
• Flow measurement — a mass flow sensor detects gas escaping a pressurized system. Suited to high-throughput lines where cycle time is critical.
• Bubble or soap test — the oldest method, applying soap solution and looking for bubbles. Cheap but slow, qualitative, and unsuitable for a production line.

Match Accuracy to Your Risk

A gas leak is a safety issue, so your tester must detect leaks far smaller than what could cause a hazard. Pressure-decay testers are specified by their minimum detectable leak rate and repeatability. Choose an instrument whose sensitivity comfortably exceeds the leak threshold your market's standards require — leaving margin, not just meeting the minimum.

Cycle Time and Throughput

The tester must keep pace with your line. A high-sensitivity test takes longer, so on fast lines operators use multiple test stations or faster flow-based methods. Balancing sensitivity against cycle time is a core planning decision, not an afterthought.

Calibration and Records

A tester is only trustworthy if it is calibrated and its results recorded. Plan for periodic calibration against a reference leak, and log every unit's pass/fail result. This documentation is also what your customers and regulators will ask to see.
